Henri Schoeman rakes up podium at Beijing International Triathlon

Just one week after his Gold Coast Grand Final 6th place, Schoeman proves his worth in the non-draft format standard distance race in Beijing, China. Competing against the likes of Great Britain’s Brownlee brothers, Norway’s Kristian Blummenfelt and Ben Kanute of the USA, Schoeman had his work cut out for him. Off to a lightning fast start, Schoeman was first out the water in a time of 17:09, 9 seconds ahead of Kanute. Out on the bike course, the non-draft format meant the men had to each maintain focus on their own races, whilst keeping a watchful eye on what was happening around them. Blummenfelt had the fastest bike split, catching up his 44 second deficit after the swim. Jonathan Brownlee, Schoeman, Kanute and Blummenfelt came into T2 together. The final leg- a brutal stair infested 10km run through the Garden Expo Park- would decide the winner. With a 32:52 run split and overall time of 1:51:37, Jonathan Brownlee crossed the line first. After his gutsy cycle, Blummenfelt left it all out on the course, running his way to second place with a run time of 33:05 and overall time of 1:51:46. Schoeman claimed the third spot on the podium with a run effort of 33:14 and overall time of 1:51:58.
