NOTICE: SA Triathlon Championships – Durban – CANCELLATION
It is with great regret that Triathlon South Africa have made the decision to CANCEL the 2020
SA National Championship scheduled to take place in Durban, Sunday, 22 March 2020. Last
week Triathlon SA received notice from the International Triathlon Union that all events
globally are cancelled up to the end of April 2020 which impacted the African Cup scheduled
to take place in conjunction with the SA National Championships.
In light of this development Triathlon South Africa has no choice and will NOT SANCTION
any events until further notice.
Out of great concern for the health and safety of our athletes and stakeholders with the
outbreak of Covid-19; the President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation declaring a
National State of Disaster and outlining measures the South African Nation must take to
contain the spread of the virus with immediate effect.
These measures include:-
Travel ban from foreign nationals from high risk countries from 18 March 2020
SA Citizens advised to refrain from travel to or through high risk countries effective
SA Citizens returning from high risk countries will have testing and self isolation.
All foreign nationals having arrived into the country since mid February from high
risk areas must be tested
All spheres of government must NOT take non essential travel
Gathering of more than 100 people prohibited
Schools closed from 18 March 2020 until the Easter Weekend break
Visits to all Correctional facilities cancelled for the next 30 days
All businesses must ensure all measures taken to itensify hygiene control
All shopping centres must ensure all measures taken to intensify hygiene control
Capacity of health centres being increased nationally
Call for all to wash hands for 20 seconds

Call for all to sneeze with a closed hand into a tissue or elbow
Call for all to avoid close contact with those who have flu like symptoms
Call for all to practice the “elbow” greeting and not shake hands
National Command council has established, meeting 3 times a week, chaired by the
President of South Africa
Swift, purposeful and collective action is required.
BE RESPONSIBLE. BE CALM.
The Covid-19 pandemic calls for all of us to become much more conscious of both our own
safety and that of our families, colleagues and communities.
Although we ask that you keep the risks of the pandemic top of mind, please remain calm
and be considerate. During difficult times such as these it’s more important than ever to be
caring, thoughtful and kind. Let’s bring out the best in ourselves and each other.
