The JHB ULTRA – JOZI’s most eagerly awaited triathlon in years

The up-country triathletes have been forced to travel to their favourite races for many years, nut now they have the JHB ULTRA right on their door-step. Taking place on the 2nd DECEMBER at the Cradle Moon Game Lodge, the ULTRA SERIES has finally come “home” and will offer the up-country athletes a sleep in their own beds the night before RACE DAY.

The Ultra Series which has events spread across the country and is SA’s only home-grown national triathlon series will stage the 1st of many events on Sunday the 2nd December. The Ultra Series is the biggest 70.3 distance series in South Africa, with events taking place in Cape Town, Sun City, Durban and now Johannesburg.

The Cradle area is a second home to most of the triathletes living above the Vaal River and they will know this new race route like the back of their hands. Competitors from around Gauteng have been excited to enter this new event, giving them an opportunity to race in their back yard and in their training grounds.

Entries are open and places are filling up fast. There will be a limit on entries to allow athletes to have a great race experience without clutter and congestion on the bike and run routes. Organisers, B-Active Events are requesting that athletes enter soon, as space is limited and entries close when entries are full, or on the 7th November.

The Ultra Series, is unique to other long-distance triathlons across SA, as it offers a Sprint and Ultra distance race. The Sprint race is currently the only national Sprint Series in South Africa and gives budding athletes an exciting entry distance event to start off on. The Ultra distance is becoming increasingly popular, with more and more challengers taking to the long-distance starting line.

The swim as you will well know, will take place inside the resort venue confines at the Cradle Moon. Thereafter cyclists head out onto the popular cradle cycle route with a slight deviation to ensure that there is minimal cross over between the competitors and those out for a casual cycle ride. The Sprint race is expected to start at 7:30am which should see most of the social cyclists already off the road sipping on their coffee by the time the ULTRA and SPRINT triathletes get to work. The Ultra Triathletes will then start their event at 8am

Competitors can choose between the Sprint (600m swim/20km cycle/5km run) and the Ultra (1.9km swim/90km cycle/21km run) events. There are also team entries available for the family teams, friends and corporates that want to get involved but only want to do 1 of the 3 disciplines.

The course for the swim is “flat” while the cycle route will be fairly undulating. For the regulars who train this venue week in and week out, this will definitely not be a problem. The run will consist of 80% tar with a small 3km trail section ensuring a traffic free run leg with some great wildlife scenery

The B-Active team deliver a world-class event that is easily at place and precision with any other triathlon event in the world. Best you get your entry in now and avoid the FOMO…………
