World Triathlon has informed Triathlon South Africa that Mhlengi Gwala has been charged with an Anti-Doping Rule Violation, namely an adverse analytical finding in respect of prohibited substances, namely:
- Adverse Analytical Finding of GW1516-sulfoxide and GW1516-sulfone (Ultra Nox).
The athlete’s degree of fault warranted a reduction of the mandatory Period of Ineligibility of 4 years. In the circumstances a Period Ineligibility of 11 months has been imposed. Taking into consideration the commencement date of his Provisional Suspension on 24 October 2022, his ineligibility period will terminate on 23 September 2023. All results, points, titles, awards, medals and prize money awarded since 18 September 2022 are forfeited.
The hearing of Annah Watkinson regarding Anti-Doping Rule violations is still pending. The athlete remains temporarily suspended from participating in all competitions, events and other activities.
