Ackermann finishes 2018 off on a high with first standard distance of her season

South African triathlete Simone Ackermann closed off her season with a 12th place finish at the Miyazaki World Triathlon Cup in Japan on 10 November 2018. Ackermann’s swimming was to her usual strong standards, coming out the water of the non-wetsuit 1500m swim in 7th place, with a time of 19:34; 39 seconds after lead-out-the-water Summer Cook (USA). In a pack on the cycle, Ackermann’s group managed to catch the leading ladies and continued to work together for the remainder of the cycle. Ackermann biked 1:05:29 for the 40km. Onto the run, Americans Cook and Chelsea Burns made a move for the front with Spaniard Miriam Casillas García in tow for 3rd. Ackermann held her own with her season’s first ITU standard distance race, finishing her 10km run in a time of 37:38. Ackermann’s finish time of 2:04:17 placed her 12th in a strong ladies field. Cook claimed the victory in a winning time of 2:01:01, followed by Burns in second.
